Dosbarth Enfys Summer Term ‘Our Living World’ Science: Learning to be based around the topics of animals (needs of animals, caring for animals) and plants (what plants need to grow). History: Sequencing events such as the life cycle of a chicken. Observing the growth of cress. Calendar countdown when incubating eggs. Days of the week and months of the year. Design and Technology: Cooking activities, making animal puppets, making bird feeders and creating own miniature gardens. Visits/ visitors – e.g. visit to a local farm, incubating eggs, visit from a hen or cockerel. Values education. Caring for animals and plants. Health and hygiene. Comparisons between our needs and those of plants and animals. Incubating eggs within class. Trips to consolidate classroom learning. Phonological, grapheme and mark making activities. Individual and group reading opportunities. Letters and Sounds sessions. Nursery rhymes and songs. Story telling and sequencing – Oh Dear. Instruction texts – Making bird feeders, cooking activities, planting cress seeds. Poetry linked to animals and our natural world. Recounts – based on news, class trips and the development of a chicken. Use of a variety of fiction and non-fiction books to support the topic. Writing for different purposes – appreciation cards, list writing, letter writing. Role play areas: Garden centre and vets.
