Single Copies for Teachers (one time use unless permission given) A teacher may copy for the purposes of research, teaching or preparation any of the following: (one time use unless permission given) A chapter from a book an article from a magazine or newspaper a short story or short poem a chart, graph, drawing, cartoon, or picture from a book.

Single Copies for Teachers (one-time use unless permission given) A teacher may write the material on a blackboard or create an overhead transparency. IMPORTANT: Copies may not create or replace anthologies. No copies should come from consumables. Copying may not substitute for the purchase of books, magazines, etc. (anything that would take profits away)

Multiple copies for Classroom Use: Making multiple copies for student use is permissible provided that all 3 tests are met: brevity (1 per student only- no extras) spontaneity (who requests the copies) cumulative effect (the effect of the copies on others) Each copy must include a notice of copyright.

Multiple copies for Classroom Use: Enlarging or modifying in any way violates copyright! One teacher cannot make copies for the entire grade level, department, team, etc. Only an individual teacher may request the making of multiple copies. The inspiration must come from the teacher.

Copyright and Computer Software Computer software is licensed - not sold. The user must agree to follow the license agreement that is usually included in the software package. Example:A CD-Rom is bought with a license agreement for a single user. The software cannot be installed on several computers - even if you must use the CD-Rom to operate the software.

Permission is mandatory! Conclusion: Permission is mandatory!
