Journal #1 List as many bones you can think of and where they are located-proper names only! Name two things we can do to keep our bones healthy and strong.

Skeletal System Notes What the skeletal system does for you: Skeletal system- an internal system made up of bones, joints, and connective tissue There are 206 bones in the body. What the skeletal system does for you: Supports your body Allows movement Protects soft tissue   Forms blood cells

How do we keep our bones strong? -Be active. Weight bearing exercises stress bones, which makes them stronger. Ex. Running, jumping, dancing, hiking, resistance training. -Eat healthy. A diet rich in Vitamin D and calcium should be consumed every day. Ex. Dairy products, nuts, dark green leafy vegetables.

5. joint- the point at which two bones meet 6. Types of Joints: Hinge ex. knee Ball-and-socket ex. Hip, shoulder Pivot ex. Neck Gliding ex. Wrists 7. Cartilage- strong, flexible tissue that cushions your joints 8. tendons-tough bands of tissue that connect a muscle to a bone 9. ligaments-cord-like tissues that connect the bones in each joint
