The Skeletal System Why do we need it? How can I take care of it?

The Skeletal System helps the human body do what it is designed to do, have … Movement Action

Movement and action are made possible by having … Bones and Joints Bones are the hard interior framework of the body. Joints are the places where the bones come together.

Why do you need your bones? Your bones help you move. (Movement) Your bones protect your other important body parts. (Protection) Your bones give you shape. (Support)

What is the whole system of bones called? Skeleton The skeleton holds up the legs and neck.

What would you look like without bones? Without bones inside you to give you shape, you would be a BLOB!

My skull… protects my brain.

My rib cage… …protects my heart and lungs.

What can you do to take care of your skeletal system? exercise Eat dairy foods play carefully Sit up straight

What can I do to make sure my bones grow? Make sure you get enough calcium in your diet. We can get calcium from milk.

Interesting facts The longest bone in your body is the bone above your knee, the thighbone. Your funny bone isn’t a bone at all. By the time you stop growing, you’ll have 206 bones! Your bones are living. They grow as you get older.

What do you know? 4. What are the places where the bones come together? joints 5. What is the whole system of bones? skeleton 6. What are the three functions of the skeleton? movement, support, and protection
