P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 1 PRIORITY 1 SBCISD will implement a developmentally appropriate and aligned curriculum for Prekindergarten and Kindergarten students with quality instruction supported through targeted professional development, which ensures students are postsecondary ready. P-20.1.1 Year 1 Goal – Full day Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2016-17 school year for ALL age appropriate students. Provide a curriculum that is directly aligned to the Prekindergarten/Kindergarten TEKS which includes social emotional developmental skills. [10 domains] STATUS [April 2017] All twelve elementary schools at SBCISD offer full day Prekindergarten for the 2016-2017 school year for all age appropriate students. Seven campuses: Frank Roberts, Landrum, Fred Booth, La Paloma, La Encantada, Rangerville and Sullivan Elementary schools offer full day pre-K through a partnership with NINOS, Inc. Head Start. Five campuses: Dr. Cash, Leal, JODLF, Ed Downs and Dr. Garza offer full day Pre-K. Pre-K Thematic units are utilized to deliver instruction through The Opening the World of Learning [OWL] curriculum district wide. The curriculum targets the 10 domains: social/emotional, language, alliteration: writing and reading, emergent literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, fine arts, physical development, and technology.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 1 STATUS [April 2017] Continued: The BOY and MOY CIRCLE Assessments has been administered to all Pre-kindergarten students. Five days of Children Learning Institute [CLI] Training has been completed with all Pre-K teachers: August 24-26, 2016; November 21, 2016; February 18, 2017. Five TTT sessions targeting Pre-K curriculum trained by Pre-K Coordinator, Monica Munoz, and other Pre-K teachers. House Bill 4 Pre-K Grant Family Engagement Plan has been posted on the SBCISD web-site. iPad distribution for Integrated CORE student learning centers for all campuses in March 2017. Pre-registration for full day Prekindergarten for the 2017-2018 school year occurred April 3-7, 2017. This is one month earlier than traditionally held. As of today, we have pre-registered 43% of our current Pre-K enrollment for the incoming school year. Parental Engagment Activities: November 15, 2016 – Math & Literacy Hands On Activities with Parents, Teachers, and Students. December 6, 2016 – Winter Social “Arts & Crafts” and Educational Toy Gift Distribution February 1, 2017 – 100th Day of School Celebration – Parent/Student Breakfast w/Hands On Activities

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 1 STATUS [April 2017] Continued: February 24, 2017 - Technology Night for Parents to review CLI (Children’s Learning Institute) for progress monitoring data and intervention strategies. February 27 – March 3 – Celebrate Texas Public Schools Week – Spring Parent/Child Picnic w/book reading. All students received a book to read at home with their parents to promote literacy at home. April 4 – 7, 2017 – Author Visits to all 12 schools with a Book Reading Learning Experience with parents. March 29 – May 19, 2017 Ongoing Spring Field Trips / Brownsville Children’s Museum for all campuses to expose students to careers and real world exploration NEXT STEPS: EOY progress monitoring April 24 - May 5, 2017. Computers facilitating parent access to CLI Engage in order to monitor their child’s progress will be installed at each elementary campus. Computers will also be utilized to open parent email accounts and to promote adult literacy with technology. TTT April 27th on Effective Communication Strategies, and providing support for families during crisis 2nd round of Pre-K registration to occur May 1-5, 2017. EOY Celebration - May 2017 - All Prekindergarten students will receive a summer learning backpack which contains materials/manipulatives to be used during the summer to prepare for Kindergarten.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 2 PRIORITY 2 SBCISD will create a community network with local governments, institutions of higher education, and community organizations to eliminate barriers for post secondary success. P20.2.1 Year 1 Goal: Community network will finalize branding, marketing, goals to reduce barriers for post secondary success for all students. Create a tagline that will be used on all district publications. STATUS [APRIL 2017] October 27, 2016 - P-20 Logo, tagline branding, and postsecondary needs assessment were discussed with the committee members at the SBHS Library. November 10, 2016 - Presented Clearing House Data, Naviance Report, and P-20 Tagline/Logo Project at P-20 Committee meeting. January 12, 2017 – Meeting was held with Mr. Raul Trevino and Mr. Roland Garcia, Marketing Class Instructor, to discuss initiative to have marketing class students develop the P-20 tagline and logo for SBCISD.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 2 STATUS [APRIL 2017] Continued: March 22, 2017 – Mr. Roland Garcia met to review the student projects with Mr. Raul Trevino for feedback on alignment to the intent of the rubric. Marketing students begin finalizing projects. March 30, 2017 – Members of the P-20 Committee are emailed an invitation to attend the marketing students presentation of projects and to receive update on P-20 initiatives. April 6, 2017 – P-20 Committee Meeting at SBHS: Student Presentations; P-20 Logo & Tagline Selection; P-20 Year 1 Goals Update NEXT STEPS: Date / TBD - P-20 Committee Recommendation: Top two marketing students and Mr. Roland Garcia will meet with Celia Longoria and her team to modify their logo/tagline for color and size to ensure that the logo is still effective when reduced to letterhead size. May 4, 2017 - P-20 Committee will meet to choose one of the top two logo/tagline designs for SBCISD

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 3 PRIORITY 3 SBCISD will create a district culture that promotes and emphasizes the importance of academic preparedness and supports the belief that a post secondary education is critical and attainable for all students. P20.3.1 Year 1 Goal: SBCISD will conduct needs assessment for Post Secondary readiness. Generate a needs assessment for postsecondary readiness. STATUS [April 2017] October 19, 2016 – P-20 Committee Meeting was held to discuss the focal points for postsecondary needs assessment for postsecondary readiness, share notes taken at previous P-20 Committee meetings. Academic Preparedness, College/ Career Guidance, and improvement of test scores on PSAT, TSI, SAT, and ACT were determined to be primary focuses for SBCISD. October 27th, 2016 - P-20 Committee Meeting was held to discuss Postsecondary Needs Assessment. Committee decided to include a student and parent college and career readiness survey as part of the overall needs assessment. Clearing House Data was discussed and analyzed. November 10, 2016 - P-20 Committee reviewed parent and student college and career readiness surveys from a variety of sources and questions were selected to include in the SBCISD P-20 College & Career Readiness student and parent surveys. March 31, 2017 – Parent and Student surveys were approved by Dr. Adrian Vega and submitted to the Director of Technology, Ms. Lee Pena, for conversion to survey monkey.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 3 NEXT STEPS: Student Postsecondary Readiness Survey for Grades 8-12 completed on April 6-7, 2017 via SBCISD website under “For Students” tab. April 11, 2017 – Highlights of Student Postsecondary Readiness Survey reported to School Board: 77% of our 8-12 grade students completed the survey. Participation by campus: 100% of 8th grade students at all three middle schools 84% of 9th grade VMA students 61% of 10th graders at SBHS 56% of 11th graders at SBHS 58% of 12th graders at SBHS

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 3 STATUS [APRIL 2017] Continued: Q & A results: Q 3 - 85% “AGREE” - “I’m not afraid to ask repeated questions about the classes I need to take to prepare for my college and career choices.” Q4 – 66% “AGREE” - “I know where to go for help to learn more about college.” Q5 - 70% “DISAGREE” - “I have visited several colleges, and I can describe the qualities I am looking for in a college.” Q6 – 64% “AGREE” - “I feel like I have a good understanding of what is required in college classes.” Q7 – 67% “DISAGREE” - “I know how to apply for admission to college.” Q8 – 53% “DISAGREE” – “I know about the admission tests required for college applicants.” Q9 – 72% “DISAGREE” – “I know how to apply for financial aid and student loans.” Q10 - 81% “AGREE” - “I know what I want to study in college.” Q11 - 67% “AGREE” – “I have a back-up plan in place in case the field I am considering doesn’t work out.” Q12 - 97% “AGREE” - “My family supports my decision to go to college.” NEXT STEPS: April 18 – April 28, 2017 - Participation in Parent Postsecondary Readiness Survey to be solicited during the week prior to the SBCISD Parent Conference on April 22, 2017 and culminating on the week after. May 19, 2017 - Analysis of Student and Parent Postsecondary Readiness Survey results to be completed. June 2017 – Completion of PNA report and development of action plan.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 4 PRIORITY 4 SBCISD will support college and career opportunities in academic offerings in order to provide the academic knowledge and preparation students will need for success in college and careers. P20.4.1 Year 1 Goal: All SBCISD students will be introduced to academic expectations for TEA College and Career Readiness skills which will be embedded into teacher lesson plans. All SBCISD teachers will become familiar with the TEA College and Career Readiness Standards and embed into lessons and lesson plans. STATUS [April 2017] College/ Career Readiness Standards [CCRS] emailed to all principals. November 3, 2016 - CCRS Committee meeting held to discuss activities for K-12 correlated to College/Career Readiness Standards. November 7, 2016 - Google Document Share Group developed to assist teachers with lesson plan correlation to CCRSs November 14, 2016 – CCRS training for all principals.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 4 STATUS [APRIL 2017] Continued: CCRS Committee meeting held on November 30, 2016 December 2016 - Teacher Training Teachers session on CCRS was provided for all PK – 12 teachers by RTI teachers and Deans. December 2016 - Content specific PPTs shared with all teachers during campus PLCs. NEXT STEPS: Summer 2017 - Curriculum Writing Project to include lesson plans written by a cadre of teachers who will embed CCRS into the lessons.

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 5 PRIORITY 5 SBCISD will ensure early and continuous exposure to college and careers for all of its students. P20.5.1 – Year 1 Goal: Middle school and high school guidance in college and career exploration supported by Naviance will be provided. All students in Middle School and High School will be provided guidance in college and career exploration supported by the college / career readiness tool. STATUS [April 2017] Naviance Workshop on July 25th through 27th 2016. Attendees included middle and high school counselors, and teachers Generated timeline to rollout curriculum and management system to students Student logins distributed Career Explorations Course for 8th Grade students has yielded phenomenal participation rates with the Career Cluster Survey: Berta Cabaza Middle School – 93% Miller Jordan Middle School – 90% Riverside Middle School – 96%

P-20 YEAR 1 PRIORITY 5 STATUS: continued Strengths Explorer Survey for 8th grade: 548 completed Resume Builder: 297 created by Seniors Implemented lessons in grades 6th through 12th grades. 30,384 student logins from September 5, 2016 through April 5, 2017. 875 College applications submitted by seniors as of April 5, 2017. Parent login campus links and instructions posted on district website. NEXT STEPS April 22, 2017 – SBCISD Parent Conference - Four Sessions-Accessing Naviance Family Connection Sessions to increase access and visits of Naviance for parents. May 2017 – Seniors to complete Graduation Survey. Summer 2017 - Update Naviance Scope & Sequence to include more tasks for Juniors & Seniors such as Registering for SAT, ACT, TSI, and completing FAFSA August 15, 2017- Naviance Tracking and Reporting Session for High School Counselors, Senior Seminar Teachers, and College & Career Department.
