THE CALL TO WORSHIP Lift up your heads, O you gates; From Psalm 24 Lift up your heads, O you gates; BE LIFTED UP, YOU ANCIENT DOORS, So the King of glory may come in. WHO IS THIS KING OF GLORY? The Lord strong and mighty, HE IS THE KING OF GLORY!

**THE OPENING HYMN #300 ‘ALL GLORY, LAUD AND HONOR’

All glory, laud and honor, (1) to You Redeemer King, To whom the lips of children, made sweet hosannas ring: You are the King of Israel, and David’s royal son, now in the Lord’s name coming, The King and Blessed One!

The company of angels (2) is praising You on high, And we with all creation in chorus make reply. The people of the Hebrews with palms before You went. Our praise and prayer and anthems Before You we present.

To You before Your passion, (3) They sang their hymns of praise; To You, now high exalted, Our melody we raise: You did accept their praises, Accept the praise we bring, All glory, laud and honor, O good and gracious King!

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Isaiah 53:5-6   He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed. All we, like sheep have gone astray; We have turned every one to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

OF THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM AFFIRMING OUR FAITH WITH THE FIRST QUESTION AND ANSWER OF THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM 1563 WHAT IS YOUR ONLY COMFORT, IN LIFE AND IN DEATH?

That I belong, body and soul, in life and in death, not to myself, [Answer] That I belong, body and soul, in life and in death, not to myself, but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, Who at the cost of His own blood has fully paid for all my sins, and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil;

That He protects me so well that, without the will of my Father in heaven, not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit His purpose for my salvation.

Therefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on, to live for Him.

A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE HOLY SCRIPTURE Mark 11:1-11 Read by Ron VanDyke After leaving Jericho, Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives. There Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’

So they went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway So they went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on the colt. Many people spread their capes on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.

Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

**THE SONG OF PREPARATION: #297 HOSANNA, LOUD HOSANNA

Hosanna, loud hosanna, (1) the little children sang; Through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to His breast, The children sang their praises, the simplest and the best.

From Olivet they followed (2) mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of men and angels rode on in lowly state, Nor scorned that little children should on His bidding wait.

“Hosanna in the highest!” (3) that ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King. O may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice, And in His blissful presence eternally rejoice!

THE CLOSING HYMN #327 ‘THE OLD RUGGED CROSS’

(1) On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, The emblem of suff’ring and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

(2) Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above To bear it to dark Calvary. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

(3) In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see, For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

(4) To the old rugged cross I will ever be true; Its shame and reproach gladly bear; Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away, Where His glory forever I’ll share. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.
