Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity Strategic Plan 2014-2018 Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will expand its services to help over 300 families through homeownership, A Brush with Kindness and Critical Home Repair. Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will develop services, financing, policies and procedures that promote robust community development activities. Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will mobilize volunteers and serve as a leading voice in affordable homeownership. Fund the mission Grow skills and leadership capabilities Operate with excellence

Executive Summary Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity is focused on providing opportunities for home ownership to qualifying families. We provide a hand up, not a hand out. We manage land acquisition, construction, financing, and social services to provide our new homeowners with the best possible start in homeownership. To provide financing for these efforts we actively engage contributors on an individual and corporate level. We also seek grants and other financial assistance. We collaborate with other organizations and local governments to leverage strength and support. In our fiscal years 2014-2018, Hartford Habitat will look to heighten our impact in the community by: Increasing the number of families we place in homes and the number of homes we build Expanding our model to include keeping people in existing homes through Critical Home Repair, A Brush with Kindness and rehab activities. Adopting a neighborhood approach for broader impact To support this expansion we will look to supplement our current financial model through: The opening of our first Habitat ReStore A renewed focus on donor giving and care A renewed focus on additional funding sources including grants and unrestricted To best position our organization for success we will focus on improved organizational effectiveness, particularly in the earlier part of the plan. We have high expectations for our Executive Director and the renewed staff and management models she is putting in place. We will also look to shore up our board governance model to best support our Executive Director, the staff, and our ambitious plans for growth.

Build Community Impact Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity Goal: Build Community Impact Between 2014 – 2018, Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will expand its services to help over 300 families improve their housing situations. Strategic Objective HAHFH Approach Metrics and Targets Serve families through sustainable construction New Construction Full House Rehabs (multi-family/multi generational builds) A Brush With Kindness Critical Repair 10-14 New/Rehab per year 4-6 critical home repairs 12 ABWK/year ReStore: Reuse, renew, recycle Open and operate our 1st ReStore-following existing Restore plan Increase awareness/build brand Grand Opening-October 18 Meeting financial targets established in the ReStore budget Number of donation (based on regional capacity statistics) per Habitat International Leverage homeownership as a catalyst for community transformation. Focus on neighborhoods as a whole. Map alternative pathways to homeownership Analyze previous build neighborhoods for need and develop target. Develop a referral system to support Habitat homeowners as well as the communities/neighborhoods-we partner with through building. Complete 2 or more projects in 4+ neighborhoods

Build Sector Impact Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity Goal: Build Sector Impact Between 2014 – 2018, Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will develop services, financing, policies and procedures to prepare for a robust community development project. Strategic Objective HAHFH Approach Metrics and Targets Support market approaches that increase products, services and financing for affordable homeownership. Build relationships with local government agencies and resident associations Demonstrate consistent engagement with relevant local groups across the service area. Promote policies and systems that advance access to adequate, affordable homeownership. Partner with for profit organization to secure additional energy efficient products and services. Increase % of Green Homes each fiscal year Identify companies with energy efficient products and secure in-kind donations. Serve as public advocate of affordable homeownership.

Build Societal Impact Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity Goal: Build Societal Impact Between 2014 – 2018, Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will mobilize volunteers and serve as a leading voice in affordable homeownership. Strategic Objective HAHFH Approach Metrics and Targets Mobilize volunteers as hearts, hands and voices for the cause of adequate, affordable homeownership. Participate in local, city, government meetings. Develop relationship with key stake holders Demonstrate consistent engagement with relevant local groups across the service area. Educate our volunteers and saints, community partners about housing related topics Engage/Re-engage volunteers in broader aspects of HFHI Collaborate with Social Enterprises Enhance website to create section that provide statistics on house related topics-Impact of homeownership by last quarter 2014 Create Advisory Board by second quarter 2015

Strategic Objective HAHFH Approach Metrics and Targets Individual Giving Contributor Care Develop an individual giving database Develop volunteer programs and solicit donations from volunteers Develop contributor recognition plan Assign staff to manage individual donors by 12/1/2014 Database built by 3/31/2015 100% board financial support Ongoing recognition plan with annual review Corporate Giving Develop a corporate giving database Establish regular touch points with larger donors Identify and Acquire Grants Identify Private Grant Sources Identify Government Grant Sources Develop and maintain a list of grant sources by 12/31/2014 Increase amount and diversity of funding.

Strategic Objective HAHFH Approach Metrics and Targets Operate with fiscal Discipline Provide Board documents that are easy to understand Provide additional information to board and staff to increase foundational knowledge Fiscal oversight- Provide fiscal oversight following best practice methods and approaches. Integrate new governance dashbord which reflects key metrics of our diverse business and ensure adherence to HFHI and other relevant best practices standard. Research best practices within Habitat using “my Habitat” intranet and other housing developers-board packets Improve Construction Efficiency and Effectiveness Manage Land acquisitions in line with neighborhood strategy Manage construction/build schedule on rolling 24 month basis Incorporate ABWK into construction plans Increase access to training for staff and committees Establish partnerships with other housing developers to support neighborhood builds Leverage Marketing to Meet Plan Goals Raise profile of Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity Develop ReStore Marketing plan Identify staff resources for marketing by 12/1/2014 Develop and adopt comprehensive annual marketing plan to include events including the ReStore marketing plan.
