Improving the Environment Delta became first US airline to begin a recycling program with their June 1, 2007 launch of In-Flight Recycling Over 2 million pounds of mixed paper, plastic and aluminum was recycled through this program in 2009 Approximately 1 million cans are recycled each month Two Habitat for Humanity homes have been funded by In-Flight Recycling 221,000 pounds of worn aircraft carpet has been recycled through Delta’s Aircraft Carpet Recycling program since 2007

The Delta Prize for Global Understanding Established at the University of Georgia by The Delta Air Lines Foundation in 1997 Awarded annually to an individual or group that has provided opportunities for greater understanding between cultures and nations Recipients have included: Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter and The Carter Center, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Nelson Mandela, to name a few A Student Selection Committee as well as The Delta Prize Board, made up of global leaders, select the recipient each year
Summary Delta is the largest airline in the world and takes this position to find ways to give back and reduce the impact some of their operations have on the environment Through their In-Flight Recycling Program, they have reduced the amount of waste the airline creates from onboard service The company takes a portion of the billions of dollars of revenue each year and donates it to a plethora of causes to improve and have a greater impact on the community By promoting diversity in many aspects of the business, Delta is practicing responsible and ethical operations
