This World Is Not My Home! Many in our society would profess that this world is not their home. But few would demonstrate this profession in the way they live their lives. To often we focus on the here and now. Many times we are consumed with care for physical things and give little or no thought to things of a spiritual nature.
This World Is Not My Home! If we truly believe and understand that this world is not our home then it will be demonstrated by our obedience to God. It was demonstrated in the actions of those in Hebrews 11. Heb 11:1 ¶ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
This World Is Not My Home! Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. 4 ¶ By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
This World Is Not My Home! 5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
This World Is Not My Home! Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. 7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
This World Is Not My Home! Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; All of these demonstrated their faith in God by actions.
This World Is Not My Home! Abel offered a sacrifice by faith This is how we know God told them what to offer Ro 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. If God had not told them what to offer it would have been impossible to have offered it by faith as Able did. We don’t know a lot about Enoch, but we do know this!
This World Is Not My Home! Ge 5:24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. When it says he “walked with God” it means he lived his life the way God wanted him to. That takes action. Noah built an ark. Noah built a boat 1 ½ football fields long and filled it with pairs of animals of every kind. It took him 120 years to do it.
This World Is Not My Home! Abraham left his home and most of his family behind in Ur of the Chaldees. He packed up and left not knowing where he was going. Some of these actions would seem crazy to those people around them. So, why would they do these things? They had a very good reason.
This World Is Not My Home! Heb 11:10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude--innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
This World Is Not My Home! Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. 15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.
This World Is Not My Home! Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. These all realized that this world with all of its sickness, pain, problems and misery was not their home! Because of that they were willing to do whatever it took to get to that Heavenly home.
This World Is Not My Home! The same applied to the rest of those mentioned in Hebrews 11. They were looking for a better more permanent place. Paul tells the Christians at Corinth this earth is not our permanent home. 2Co 5:1 ¶ For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
This World Is Not My Home! Paul also taught the Christians at Phillipi that our Heavenly home is “far better” than this one. Php 1:21 ¶ For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
This World Is Not My Home! Paul also tells the Christians at Corinth that he wants to leave this life and be at home with Christ. 2Co 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Nkjv 2Co 5:8 We are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Rsv Is this the attitude that we have?
This World Is Not My Home! Is this our main goal in life? To go home to be with God?. Or are our goals centered around material things? Bigger house, newer car, more money, more friends, being entertained, etc. How does the effort we put into getting into Heaven compare to the effort we put into these type of things. Do we make any sacrifices in order to obtain the things we want in this life? Sure we do.
This World Is Not My Home! What sacrifices have we made for our home in Heaven? Websters defines sacrifice: to suffer loss of, give up, renounce, injure, or destroy especially for an ideal, belief, or end Paul says we should be “living sacrifices” Ro 12:1 ¶ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
This World Is Not My Home! We should be willing to give up living for ourselves and our own pleasures and desires and live according to how God has commanded. Paul while a prisoner in Rome was willing to gladly offer his very life as a sacrifice in service to God. Php 2:17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
This World Is Not My Home! Why were Paul and others willing to go to this extreme? They realized this world was not their home. Because of that they were willing to do whatever was necessary in order to make it to their true home in Heaven. Are we willing to do the same?
This World Is Not My Home! Are we willing to give up?: Family like Abraham did? He left most of his family in Ur of the Chaldeas He was willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac Wealth like Moses did? He gave up being Pharaoh’s grandson Position and Power like Paul did? What about our life if necessary? Like Stephen and so many others did.
This World Is Not My Home! If we have to give up these things and others the reward will surely be worth it. Listen to how John describes Heaven in Revelation 21 Re 21:2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
This World Is Not My Home! Re 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
This World Is Not My Home! Re 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." 6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 "He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
This World Is Not My Home! Re 21:18 The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
This World Is Not My Home! Re 21:20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. 22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
This World Is Not My Home! Re 21:23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. 25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there).
This World Is Not My Home! Re 21:26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. God uses the most beautiful physical things we can imagine in order to describe Heaven. This is our inheritance if we overcome.
Conclusion In order to obtain that home in Heaven we must be willing to give up all that we have. Nothing in this life is worth giving up our home in Heaven for. Mt 16:26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? We must remember “this world is not my home”
