Questioning while you read Good readers ask deep thinking questions when they read These should be open ended, not one word or yes/no answers. As you read you will be recording the important facts, but also asking deep thinking questions about these facts. You will also be making inferences from these deep thinking questions.

Deep thinking Questions and Inferences Should not be answered with only one word or a yes or no Can cause a discussion or argument Dig for more information Answer a deep thinking question Do not come from the text or reading Many times like predictions or opinions

Questions from a text Who won the NBA Championship last year? Not Deep Thinking Deep Thinking Who won the NBA Championship last year? Who does Messi play for? Were the Spurs one of the best teams ever? Is Messi the best soccer player in the world today? Why or why not?

Making an inference using facts and deep thinking questions Real Madrid won the Champions League last year. How will Madrid do this year? They might win Champions League again, but it will be a challenge because Barcelona and many other teams are good LeBron James has won four MVPs and two championships and two gold medals by the age of 29. Can he be as good as the all time greats Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson? I think he can be, but he will have to win at least one more championship for Cleveland to be as good as them.
