WELCOME CANBERRA ALUMNI TO OUR SEMINAR Think Bigger Live Bolder Presented by Margie Warrell 16 September 2015

1 Think Bigger 2 Rethink Risk 3 Unlearn to Relearn 4 Speak Bravely 5 Embrace Setbacks

THINK BIGGER You must think bigger to act bigger. “The desire for safety stands against every great and noble enterprise.” Tacitus THINK BIGGER You must think bigger to act bigger. Live by design, not by default. If your goals don’t scare you, think bigger.

RETHINK RISK BIGGER Losses loom larger than gains. Our desire for safety stands against progress. Don’t discount the cost of inaction.

RISK AVERSE MINDSET Danger Zone Growth Perceived Risk I’m not ready The timing isn't right I need to know more I could lose what I have Better to stick with known We see only 2 risk zones Danger Zone Growth Focused on protecting what you have. Driven by certainty, comfort, and control. Comfort Zone Perceived Risk Leads to Little (if Any) Risk Taking

RISK READY MINDSET Growth Perceived Risk Courage Zone There’s a cost to inaction I’ll regret if I don’t try The timing will never be perfect There will always be uncertainty I have an initial plan & will learn as I go Experimentation drives growth The 3rd risk zone between comfort and danger Courage Zone Focused on learning, progress and exploration. Driven by purpose, curiosity, growth. Growth Comfort Zone Danger Zone Perceived Risk Leads to Smart Risks

UNLEARN TO RELEARN What got you here won’t get you there. Stories shrink or expand what’s possible. Be wary of untested assumptions. .

Unlearn what you think you know to relearn what you need to know. Stories Emotions Actions Results

TITLE 72PTS SPEAK BRAVELY Conversations are the currency of influence. Exit your ‘conversational comfort zone’ . Build trust in every encounter.

EMBRACE SETBACKS RESILIENCE Be careful how you explain your failures. Your setbacks don’t define you, your response does.
