Situation: Emma is standing on an icy hill. Brooklyn gives Emma a small push down the hill. Emma slides down the hill.

Inclined Planes Force Diagrams: Step #1: Draw the coordinate system with the x-axis parallel to the ramp. Step #2: Let the direction pointed downwards be in the positive direction.

Step #3: Step #4: Break the diagram into it’s components. Fg = Force of gravity perpendicular to inclined plane. Fg = Force of gravity parallel to inclined plane. Step #4: The force of gravity will remain the force of gravity regardless of what we do to the situation, thus we can solve for the component of the normal force.
