Adding and Subtracting Integers (Positive and Negative Numbers) If I asked you to solve the question of what is 5 – 2 = equal? most of you would have no trouble coming up with the answer of 3. Now what if I asked for the answer to -2 +5 ? How many of you would see that this is the same question just rearranged? The answer is still 3. Ok. Now lets look at a few questions: How about +4 +2 = +5 +3 = -6 – 5 = Can we see a pattern here? Is there a rule for adding/subtracting integers when the signs are the same? What about: +8 – 7= -7 + 2= + 4 – 5= Can we see a pattern here? What is the rule for adding/subtracting integers when the signs are the same?

Adding and Subtracting Integers Solve: -7 + 10 = -5 – 3= +4 – 6 = 9 – 3 = -12 – 6= - 4 + 9 =
