Remember how to write your summary of your points in 3a? In the article Miss Norat shares her experiences of teaching year 11. In the article the writer/writers name verb eg. ‘describes’ topic of the text. First Next After that Following this Another thing we are told is In addition to this As well as ___________ we are told that… Then the writer tells us… The text begins to end by sharing that… Finally Find and label these in my example 3b summary.

In this text Sanjay Satoor explains how brilliant his electric skateboard is and why people should use it instead of cars. He first tells us about the weight of it, it is really light and weighs less than other transport like a bicycle. As well as telling us how light it is he explains that this means you can carry it anywhere. Following this he tells us that it is easy to use because you can charge it in 15 minutes and that it has a remote control so its easy to use. In addition to this he tells us that it is good for the environment because it uses less energy than a car and it only costs $1 to charge it up. That doesn’t mean that it’s not powerful though because it can go at a good speed. It can go at 20mph. Then he tells us that it can travel up to 10 km. Finally he says that it can go up hills so it really is a great item to buy.

Your turn! Answer this 3b summary question about the text you looked at for the starter. Write a 100-150 word summary about the train using 10 points from this list. Luxury/class/elegance Intrigue/mystery Romantic experience It is the best there is in terms of long distance train travel Famous in films/books Links world’s most attractive and historical cities/London, Paris, Venice Stepping back in time/same station as in 1883. Amazing and varied scenery as you travel You can eat main meals whilst watching the scenery – all inclusive. Convenience/The train delivers you straight to the Grand Canal in Venice All transport taken care of/private boat to the hotel Get away from ‘modern’ life Period style dining is attractive idea/dress up in period dress Great food and drink/Michelin Star Unique travel experience – once in a lifetime/memorable/never forgotten

For proofreading and editing think… Capitalisation (Proper nouns – people and places) Organisation and order (Read it back – does it make sense?) Punctuation (. , ) Spelling (Does it look and sound right?)
