Why Traditional Medicine Bill An act to: Define Indigenous and Complimentary Medicine in relation to Modern Medicine, To establish a council to control and regulate the practice of Indigenous and Complimentary Medicine, To register and license practitioners and To provide for related matters

To put in place the law is to compliment Biomedicine, Provide for : Registration of practitioners and practices of ICM Minimum standards Financial provision Annual reports of activities Offences against the Act & making regulations under the Act

Traditional Medicine (TM) Refers to the total combination of knowledge and practices, whether explicable or not, used in diagnosing, preventing or eliminating physical, mental or social diseases and which may rely exclusively on past experience and observations handed down from generation to generation, verbally or in writing (WHO, 2013).

Herbal medicine Herbal medicine means any finished labeled medicinal products that contain as active ingredients aerial or underground parts of plants or other plant materials or a combination of then whether in the crude state or as a plant preparation and for the purpose of this definition Herbal medicine may contain excipients in plant material in addition to the active ingredients and in exceptional cases may also contain natural organic active ingredients which ar not of plant origin and Plant material includes extracts, gums, fatty oils and any other substances of that nature
