Obesity Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health.

Classification: Obesity is defined by body mass index (BMI) and further evaluated in terms of fat distribution and total cardiovascular risk factors. BMI is defined as the subject's weight divided by the square of their height.

Apple and pear… A way to measure fat distribution is the waist circumference The measurement of waist circumference divided people into two categories : android and gynoid .

Most common causes are: Overnutrition Genetic predisposition Drugs Mental illness Insufficient sleep Sedentary lifestyle

Effects on healt: Excessive body weight is associated with various diseases, particularly: cardiovascular diseases  diabetes mellitus type 2 certain types of cancer  obstructive sleep apnea reduce life expectancy

Effects on society: In addition to its health impacts, obesity leads to many problems including disadvantages in employment and increased business costs. Some research shows that obese people are less likely to be hired for a job and are less likely to be promoted.

Childhood obesity Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. As with obesity in adults, many factors contribute to the rising rates of childhood obesity.

Treatment: The main treatment for obesity consists of dieting and physical exercise. A medication is currently available: Orlistat The most effective treatment for obesity is bariatric surgery.
