Mrs. Hake’s Friday, Oct.7th edition CLASSROOM 2016-2017 news Sneak Preview Week in Review: Theme for the Week: Pumpkins/Seasons Letters of the Week: Nn and Mm Science/Social Studies: Lifecycle of a pumpkin & scientific process – will a pumpkin sink or float Math: Modeling and writing 1-5and Measuring length & circumference Rainbow Words: a/the This week we met Benjamin Bunny and Rowdy the Rat. Our theme this week was Big Red Apples and we did many enjoyable activities related to apples. We read apple stories, sequenced the life cycle of an apple, and we also tasted red, yellow, and green apples and then graphed our favorite. We made a bar graph. We predicted which apple food we would like best and then tasted each apple food. For math we played an apple game where you roll dice and cover an apple tree with apples. We took turns with a partner and the first one to cover their apple tree won. We also worked on fine motor skills using tweezers to pick up red pom-poms and stick apples on an apple tree. Upcoming Events: October 10 – Field trip to Fulton Farms DRESS FOR THE WEATHER October 21 – In Service-No Classes October 28 – Halloween parties. We will wear costumes. Fulton Farms field trip Halloween Party  Our classroom Halloween Party will be on Friday-October 28th It will be from 2-3. Parents are welcome, but not obligated to attend our celebration. Students will parade in their costumes at the Tipp Middle School before the party. The students are encouraged to come to school in costume with the following guidelines: •No weapons (swords, guns, etc.) •No face paint •Nothing that obstructs the students’ ability to walk, sit, talk, use the restroom independently, and/or play. •Students who will be wearing costumes MUST come wearing them. Students will not be permitted to change at school. The students will go to recess and participate in regular classroom activities before the party. Our first Kindergarten field trip will be on October 10th. The field trip will be during regular kindergarten hours. We are going to Fulton Farms to learn about apples and pumpkins. Our field trip will coordinate perfectly with our units on these topics. We received a grant for this trip; therefore there is no cost for students. This grant helps to cover the experience at Fulton Farms including, each child receiving a pumpkin, apple, hayride, and playing in Fulton Farms’ outdoor area. Please dress your child appropriately for this day. We will return to school for lunch. We will eat at a slightly later time but will have full access to the cafeteria as normal. Stretch out the sounds in words. Sort fall items such as leaves and pattern with them. Count: Collect leaves and count them. Count orally to 100. Enjoy the nice weather by practicing motor skills such as: running, jumping, skipping, galloping, marching, hopping on one foot, throwing and catching a ball. Continue practicing the letters that we have learned by finding things in the house that start with that letter. Use the monthly assessment that came home to guide you. Go through the rainbow words once a day. Keep practicing name writing every day. Keep Reading! Rainbow WORDS Trace, cut, practice: a the
