The New Creation Lesson 1.2

Monday John 1:3-4 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Today’s Place in the Story Israel was a mess. They were no longer independent in the world, and were surrounded by Gentiles. Rome was in control, which caused all the various factions of Jews to be in conflict with one another. A solution was needed, which set the stage for a huge transformation in Israel from the inside out.

The Incarnation of Christ Jesus has always existed. He is eternal. The Incarnation: when God took on flesh in the form of Jesus Christ (“The Word became flesh...”) Israel needed a new beginning. The incarnation was like a new creation; a new Genesis.

The Incarnation of Christ The Incarnation (John 1:1-3) changes the way we read Genesis 1:1. John 1:1 teaches that the Word is the Son. The Son was there with God in Genesis 1:3 The Spirit was present in Genesis 1:2

The Incarnation of Christ

The Trinity The incarnation introduces us to the Trinity (The word Trinity comes from “Tri,” meaning 3, and “Unity,” meaning 1.) Recognize that God lives outside of our 3-D world and has no limitations. This is why Jesus can be different from God and yet still be the same as God.

The Trinitypart 1

The Trinity In math God would not be 1+1+1=3; some think He would be 1x1x1=1. Many think of God like an egg, or water (no illustration is perfect though).

The Trinitypart 2

Tuesday John 1:3-4 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Jesus in the OT The Incarnation changes the way we read the Old Testament. The fact that the Son of God (the Word) was present in Genesis 1:3 makes us ask where else He might be in the OT. The story of the OT was leading up to the Incarnation all along. The OT makes us hunger for more. We want a better king, a more faithful priest, a more powerful judge...

The Incarnation Changes Things How They Did it in the OT Priests- Access to God, Sacrifices for sin Kings- Leadership, guidance Prophets- Communication with God Jesus- God in the flesh, we can go directly to God, Jesus is our sacrifice Jesus- Brought the Holy Spirit, Jesus is our Authority Jesus- Bible, Open communication with God Jesus is Better! Jesus Brings Change.

Journal Time: Transformation Read the instructions for this activity in your student book page 16. Write journal entry in your notebook.

The Old Becomes New In John 1:14 (“And the Word became flesh…”) we see that the incarnation changes creation by beginning a new creation from within the old one.

The Old Becomes New The Son spoke creation into being in Genesis; in John 1:1 he becomes part of the creation. Like an acorn is part of the ground. It brings new life from within the old dead earth.

The Old Becomes New This process is called Redemption. God is redeeming the world by making it into something new!

Application Jesus becoming a man is the foundation of the hope that we as humans can be transformed into something new just like Jesus was. Jesus transformed and redeemed humanity, so that means that we can be renewed even today! All Christians have struggles that seem to never go away, but we can have hope that transformation is possible because God became a man and changed humanity into something new and better!

Wednesday John 1:3-4 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Remember Terms Incarnation Trinity Eternal Describe the relationship between the Romans and Israel. What change did Jesus bring? (Priests, Kings, Prophets, Personal life)
