TYPES OF REPRODUCTION ASEXUAL VS SEXUAL. Let’s do some comparing!Prokaryote/Eukaryote?Unicellular/Multicellular?Heterotroph/Autotroph?Asexual/Sexual?
What are the different types of Asexual Reproduction?
 Sexual Reproduction – type of reproduction in which the genetic materials from two different cells combine, producing an offspring  Sperm – male sex.
LO: SWBAT explain the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction and describe different types of asexual reproduction DN: Explain the differences.

Asexual Reproduction vs. Sexual Reproduction Asexual Reproduction – Diploid cells give rise to identical diploid cells – DNA comes from one parent cell.

Aim: How do organisms reproduce? Who thinks they can define Reproduction? The process by which living things produce other living things like themselves.
Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction.  Parent cell first copies its DNA  Then divides into 2 separate cells  New cells have a complete copy of parent’s.
Heredity. The passing of genetic information from one generation to the next generation.
Why is Reproduction so important? Preserves the continuity of the species Essential to the transmission of hereditary information which is carried in.

Aim # 52: How do organisms reproduce? Date: February 17th, 2017 Aim # 52: How do organisms reproduce? HW: Daily Review of Class Notes Do Now: What is cancer? What is the difference between a benign and malignant tumor? What is metastasis? Name three methods of treatment.

Aim #52: How do organisms reproduce?

1) Who thinks they can define Reproduction? The process by which living things produce other living things like themselves. The production of offspring.

2) What are Chromosomes? Found in Nucleus cell XX cell Structures found in the nucleus of our cells that determine our physical characteristics (traits). They have the genetic information (DNA). Chromosomes need to be passed onto the offspring. They are the “instructions” for the cell.

3) Types of Reproduction: Asexual Reproduction X X Clones X X Parent Offspring X X Clones Genetic Information (Chromosomes) Characteristics of Asexual Reproduction: 1) Is the creation of a new individual from only parent. 1 2) Genetic information of offspring is to the parent. identical

Do the cells in our body undergo asexual reproduction? Yes 4) When do the cells of our body undergo Asexual Reproduction? Repair Growth

Some types of Asexual Reproduction: (Mitosis)

5) Some organisms are capable of Regeneration Development of lost parts or growth of an entire new organism from part of original organism Examples: Sea star and Planaria

6) Identify and define the types of Asexual Reproduction below: Binary Fission: The splitting of a one-celled organism into 2 equal size offpsring. Example: Bacteria & Amoeba

6) Identify and define the types of Asexual Reproduction below: Budding: a new cell is formed from a tiny bud on the parent cell (cytoplasm divides unequally) Examples: Yeast (unicellular), hydra (multicellular)

Brain Pop: Asexual Reproduction 3 minute video https://www.brainpop.com/science/cellular lifeandgenetics/asexualreproduction/

7) What is Sexual Reproduction? It involves the joining of two cells to begin the development of a new individual. These special cells are called: Sex Cells (Gametes)

8) What are the names of these sex cells? Egg cell (Female) Sperm Cell (Male) 9) The joining of a sperm cell with an egg cell is called fertilization.

Sexual Reproduction + Offspring Egg XX XX XX + Offspring Egg Sperm A fertilized egg cell is called a Zygote Characteristics of Sexual Reproduction: 2 1) Is the creation of a new individual from parents. 2) Offspring are not genetically to the parents. identical

10) We get half our genetic information from mom and half our genetic information from dad 23 23 Females: Egg cells Males: Sperm cells

11) Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction 1 Parent Produce Offspring 2 Parents Offspring are identical Critical for survival of the species Offspring are not identical Bacteria, Amoeba, Body Cells Humans, Dogs, Plants Asexual Reproduction Sexual Reproduction
