Key Beliefs 3 - Akirah

What do you know? Akirah/life after death Challenge: Work in pairs/threes to mind-map/model-map what you know about life after death in Islam. You have four minutes to write down anything and everything you know about judgement/the afterlife. Akirah/life after death Challenge: Where does this information come from? How do you know this?

YOLT What is the video trying to show – what is the message?

Akirah This life is a test for what is to come, we will be judged based on our actions The whole point of this life is to follow the will of Allah and try to be a good vice-regent for Him. This involves following the guidance found in the Qur’an, the Hadith (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad) and the Sunnah (example of the Prophet Muhammad).

Akirah Different traditions have different ideas about exactly how the process will work. Once a person dies, they will not go straight to Heaven or Hell to live their afterlife (there are some exceptions to this). In the time between death and the Last Day, most Muslims believe the soul is in an in-between known as Barzakh – although there are different ideas about what exactly will happen. Watton page 24

Akirah Work in pairs/threes to research the following: The Last Day Judgement Heaven Hell You will be peer-teaching this, so you must have detailed knowledge! It’s up to you how you format this – notes/mind-map etc.

The Last Day Dajjal (links to devil) will try to turn the world evil Signs may show that it is coming Dajjal (links to devil) will try to turn the world evil Only Allah knows when it will be Isa (Jesus) will come to battle Dajjal The Last Day Angel Israfil will sound the trumpet: Life will cease Everyone will be resurrected for judgement Hidden Imam comes out of hiding? Souls will have been waiting (Barzakh) between death and Last Day People will be selfish

Judgement Everyone will read their book out Book handed: Left hand (Hell) Right hand (Heaven) Everyone will read their book out Plains of Arafat Bridge to cross into afterlife: Wide and easy to cross to get to Heaven Becoming narrower and narrower until damned fall into Hell Judgement Won’t begin immediately – people will be panicking/confused Will people go to Hell forever? People will beg for prophets to intercede for them Good and bad actions weighed

Heaven Garden Beautiful women for men. And for women? Jannah Reward People are restored to youth and health Reunited with loved ones? Luxury 7 levels – Muhammad in highest. Can move down levels but not up Be in presence of Allah Rivers of milk/honey/wine

Hell Boiling water/pus to drink Separation from Allah Jahannam Punishment and torment Separation from loved ones Boiling water thrown over Who goes? Is it eternal?
