First TV technology The first regular TV broadcasts started in 1936. Transmissions were originated by the BBC, using something called the Band I-VHF 405-line television system. In 1955, a second commercial service was created using the higher Band system, administered by the Independent Television Authority. Both systems were superseded and finally closed in 1985. Analogue transmissions ceased on in October 2012 following the shutdown of the last remaining analogue transmitters in Northern Ireland, with the rest of the UK having undergone switchover to Digital in the four years prior to this. Some of the frequencies previously used for analogue television are used for new high- power digital television services, while others are used by 4G mobile data networks. First Broadcast July 1954 The BBC broadcast its first daily television news programme in 1954. This was a twenty-minute bulletin, which was prepared in advance and mostly contained news items that were a few days old. The BBC director general  ‘Sir Ian Jacob’ said that: “This is a start of something we regard as extremely significant for the future’ The director general had clear visions that the news bulletins would soon include up-to-date stories and also have interviews in the studio. Sir Ian Jacob admitted that creating this bulletins were very difficult as they found it hard to source news – by the time they had read the newspapers, the stories were out of date. How television is now. News broadcasting via television nowadays is massive. Different news channels cater for a different audience such as sports news, celebrity news and current events. Television news has local news as well as nation wide. For example, one of our local news programmes is ITV Meridian news whereas a nation wide one is BBC. There is a lot that goes into making a TV news programme with a big team and a whole studio, newsroom and gallery. Many job roles are involved with the making of a news programme, including, programme editor, story producer, director and others that go into every detail of making the news run smoothly. How television is now. The technology used is advanced cameras with tri pods and editing settings along with lighting equipment, sound technology and editing software. This has changed over TV history because before the quality was not as good and you can notice this when watching an old news report and then a newer one. When TV became coloured Television became broadcasting in color around the 1960’s in most parts of the world, mainly in America. Although there were many tests being run before the 1960’s to create a color television and by the end of 1957 color TV was becoming more popular as they had become more reliable. In the UK (1966) BBC reported that’s they would begin to broadcast in color and that Britain would be the first country in Europe to offer regular programming in color. John Logie Baird in 1928 developed the first color system because he figured out that by mixing red, blue and green beams it created the color pixels and in this creates a full image to the receiver (audience). Johns works was then expanded on to create the color TV’s we have today.

Live Broadcasting Live broadcasting is generally used in this modern day to report news happening around the world. Live broadcasting enables the public to know what’s happening as soon as it happens because of many platforms that the public can now watch it on such as smartphones and apps. Also we can also listen to the news in the car on the radio or on a smartphone, which we couldn’t have done before. In 1929 BBC did the worlds first live broadcast to the British and shorty after in the US (1951) the first national broadcast. An example of live broadcasting connecting people was the famous news story of President JF Kennedy’s funeral, which was broadcasted on live TV and was said to have been seen by one of the largest audience back then. Evaluation When we was researching it was hard to find the information needed about older TV, due to it being older information. This information was probably harder to find because back then people couldn’t update the information easily. Whereas, information on the current TV was easier to find because everyone can update the information in seconds.
