M-DCPS Promethean ClassFlow PLC Support
What is ClassFlow? ClassFlow is cloud-based teaching software designed to make lesson preparation easier and lesson delivery more dynamic. With ClassFlow, teachers can build and access interactive lessons from any web browser, share lessons with other peers and collaborate using the latest mobile and student response technology. Not only will ClassFlow help teachers save time at the planning and setup stages of lesson development, but it can also facilitate a more connected classroom. Slide
ClassFlow is available to all M-DCPS teachers and can be accessed through Teacher's Portal or directly at www. mdcps.classflow.com.

Critical Friends Group (CFG) PLC Model The District is supporting ClassFlow roll-out to the schools through the use of a Critical Friends Group (CFG) Professional Learning Community (PLC) model. A Critical Friends GroupTM (or CFGTM) is a professional learning community consisting of 8-12 members who are committed to improving their practice through collaborative learning and structured interactions (or protocols). CFG members meet at least once a month for about two hours. (National School Reform Faculty, 2012)
What Can Critical Fried Groups do for Your School? Model and build 21st Century Skills Build trust Reduce teacher and administrator isolation Change school culture Build diversity of thought extend and share leadership Facilitate participation from all members Provide healthy challenges Foster equity Honor and prioritize time for deep reflection Support strategic planning Reveal solutions to complex dilemmas Develop critical problem-solving Encourages creative, new thinking (sometimes around old problems) Carefully analyze work, and support everyone in receiving and giving focused, actionable feedback Most of all, CFGs are about collaboration—colleagues working together to improve their work and that of their students, continually striving for excellence through shared goals, norms, and values. (NSRF, 2012)
CFG and Protocols Newly formed CFGs lay groundwork with trust-building protocols and activities. Protocols are structured processes or guidelines to promote meaningful and efficient communication, problem solving and learning. By using them within a group who share common values, they’re great vehicles for building the skills and culture needed for successful collaboration.
For example, protocols have been designed or adapted for: Looking at Student Work Improving teacher work Strategic planning Looking at a variety of professional dilemmas Discussing texts Implementing observation experiences among peers Establishing equity
Our proposal: Build ClassFlow PLCs utilizing – Professional Learning Support Team (PLST) at each school, teachers that have previously attended Promethean ClassFlow training, and volunteers. If none of the teachers at your school had a chance to attend ClassFlow training, the District would support PLC at your school. However, we recommend sending some of your teachers to ClassFlow training sessions scheduled by our Department. PLST Makeup Principal AP PD Liaison Teacher Leader Other Teacher Leaders The District will provide support through: 1. Dedicated Promethean Trainer 2. District Technology Facilitator 3. Curriculum support from the Academics Departments
