EMPRESS of IRELAND 14 Minutes of Terror

What was the Empress of Ireland The Empress of Ireland was made in Scotland. It set sail on May, 28, 1914 and sunk on May, 29, 1914. Passenger ship 14,000 tons and 550 feet long

The Captain of the Ship The Captain Henry Kendall was catapulted from his perch on the side of the bridge. The Captain sunk so deep that when he came back up the ship was gone. A lifeboat pulled him out of the water. He then took command of the rescue operation. He made sure that the lifeboats were filled to the sinking point. Then brought to the vessel that hit them.

14 Minutes of Terror On a foggy night the Empress of Ireland got hit by the Storstad a mysterious vessel. More than a thousand passengers were sleeping when it got hit. One minute they were sleeping the next they were chugging water. The Empress of Ireland listed so far to the right that they couldn’t use any more lifeboats. 10 or 11 minutes after the collision lurched onto it’s side. 14 minutes after the crash the Empress of Ireland sunk.

The Rescue Ship When the lifeboats were full they were taken to the vessel that hit them the Starstad. About 1,000 people died About 465 people survived

Shipwreck Sites The ships owner blew a hole into the ship to recover about $2,000,000 worth of silver bullion. Now it is easy to get in side the Empress of Ireland. But be careful you could easily get lost in there. There are a lot of sites in there but, most of them get covered up by mud and rust. One of them is the bone yard. It’s a mystery that the bones are still there but, in the Titanic there gone.
