To Serve, and not to be Served Mark 10:35-45 Serve with Sincerity (v35-43) Serve with Servanthood (v44) Serve with Sacrifice (v45)
Key Bible verse –Mark 10:35-45 Mar 10:35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to Him, saying, Master, we desire that You should do for us whatever we shall ask. Mar 10:36 And He said to them, What do you desire that I should do for you? Mar 10:37 They said to Him, Grant to us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left hand, in Your glory.
Key Bible verse –Mark 10:35-45 Mar 10:38 But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you ask. Can you drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? Mar 10:39 And they said to Him, We can. And Jesus said to them, You shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of, and with the baptism that I am baptized with you shall be baptized.

Jesus serves with a mission to die for sinners What is the motive of our service? Sincere, not for competition Sincere, not for gain Sincere, not for position
Example of serving other Serve with Sincerity
Serve with Servanthood Mar 10:37 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever desires to be great among you, let him be your servant. Mar 10:44 And whoever of you desires to become first, he shall be servant of all. Jesus serves with a servant's heart What is the attitude of our service? Servant is humble (Gal 5:13) Servant is obedient (John 12:26) Servant is faithful (I Sam 12:24)

Serve with Sacrifice Mar 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. Jesus serves by sacrificing His life as a ransom for many What are we willing to sacrifice? Sacrifice your time Sacrifice your will Sacrifice your comfort

Reflection I am no mother Teresa, what can I do to serve other? When I am asked to serve, what is my usual response? Think about Isaiah’s response ‘Here am I, send me’ Am I willing to start saying ‘Yes’
