Students will know that energy can be carried from one place to another by heat flow or by wave, including water, light and sound waves, or by moving objects. 2NS 4.3 Students will know when all fractional parts are included, such as four-fourths, the result is equal to the whole and one. LEARNING OBJECTIVE Multiply fractions and mixed numbers. Students will know that thermal energy flows from a warmer object to a cooler object. Write and explain an improper fraction and a mixed number. AGENDA Introduce chapter 5-5, Multiplying Fractions and Mixed Numbers. Check foldable Show Brain Pop on Multiplying Fractions and Mixed numbers. Introduce chapter 3-3 Temperature, Thermal Energy and Heat Show Brain Pop on Heat. Show a PHET experiment on Heat energy. Student testing on Equivalent Fractions. Define the vocabulary words: Improper Fraction and Mixed Number. DO NOW ACTIVITY Get out your foldable. Solve the 6 practice problems that are on the board. Work with study buddy to finish homework assignment. Design a thermometer. Do example 1 to 5. Work with study buddy and do at least 2 examples per day. Write the definition of improper fraction and mixed number. HOMEWORK Start reading Multiplying Fractions and Mixed Numbers on page 252 and do problems 1-31 on page 255. Start reading Lesson 3-3, Temperature, Thermal Energy and Heat from pages 139-144. Start reading Lesson 2-2, Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions, pages 41 to 49. TEST Multiplying Fractions and Mixed Number Test. 10 problems. Thermometer Reading test. We will use the Farenheit scale for this test. Test is on changing an improper fraction to a mixed number. EXTRA CREDIT Make the foldable on page 228. Label on side with lesson 5-5 and use it to place your notes on it. Keep this foldable in your folder and add more lessons when get to them later on in the school year Make a model showing how a thermometer works. Make sure it is labeled and bring it to class. You can make one that shows Farenheit, Celsius, or Kelvin scale. Make six fraction pies and color the pieces and show me what an improper fraction and mixed number looks like .Bring in on Thursday or Friday for extra credit.
