General Close Reading Directions 1st time reading: Read carefully and get the gist What is the text mainly about What questions are you asking yourself What do you notice right away Use context clue to figure out unknown words 2nd time reading: Read again and dig deeper What stands out about the article Use the symbols to the right to identify important parts Summarize the text 3rd time reading: Read one last time and think What inferences did you make? What connections did you make? Gather Evidence Use the text to answer questions

What is space reading Do the following: Highlight the most important sentence per paragraph. Annotate using the symbols Circle every vocab word Now, answer the following questions: Summarize the article in a paragraph What stood out about the article? What are the different definitions of space in the article? Based on the article, write a definition of space in your own words? How did you come up with this definition? Draw a diagram of earths atmospheres and label them with their mathematical heights.
