Holy Spirit Schools Faith Plan 2013-16 A Christ centred learning community where students are cherished and achieve their potential

Alberta Inspiring Education Engaged thinker: I can collaborate to create new knowledge Ethical Citizen: I do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. Entrepreneurial Spirit: I create new opportunities

Principles of Catholic Social Teaching Human dignity Call to participation Solidarity The common good Rights and responsibilities Care for creation Peace

Engaged, ethical, Entrepreneurial… Taking our place at the table Here’s our plan …Taking our Place at the Table is the name of the overall plan and will be the focus in year 1. the icon of the trinity is the foundational piece… we are invited and called to step into the empty space at this table with the trinity. That call to participation, to be engaged, to do what is right and to look for new opportunities to share our faith and put action to it, creates a world where the ‘horizon of hope’ is visible. Our schools and our students bring that hope to the world. Used with permission from Artist: Fr. Bo Nahachewsky

Year 1: Taking our Place at the Table Scripture: Created in the image and likeness of God (gen1: 26-27) Catholic Social teaching focus: Human dignity, the common good, participation We learn about our gifts from God (knowledge of self) We get a sense of wonder about all of creation We belong … a call to participation. We explore new ideas to shape our community and our world. We ‘discover’ through faith and reason We are engaged thinkers. I can collaborate to create new knowledge

Year 2: Walking Together Scripture: Live justly, love tenderly, walk humbly with our God (Micah6:8) Catholic Social teaching focus: Solidarity, Rights and responsibilities, Stewardship of the earth Think critically Inclusion Multiple perspectives Teachings of Jesus show what is ‘the right thing to do.’ Role model: St. Francis Pope Francis: “ I want to ask you a favour…I want to ask you to walk together, and take care of one another” March 19,/ 2013 Installation Mass Ethical Citizen: I do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.

Entrepreneurial Spirit: I create new opportunities Year 3: A Horizon of Hope Scripture: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. ( Matt 5:9) Catholic Social teaching focus: Peace (supported by solidarity, human dignity, care for creation, participation, the common good) The Holy Spirit is at work through us. We are gifted with wisdom, understanding, wonder/ awe (fear of the Lord), counsel, knowledge, fortitude, and piety (reverence). Pope Francis: Today amid so much darkness, we need to see the light of hope and be men and women that bring hope to others. To protect creation, to protect every man and woman, to look upon them with tenderness and love, is to open up a horizon of hope. Entrepreneurial Spirit: I create new opportunities

Holy Spirit Schools Faith Plan 2013-16 Year 1: Taking our Place at the Table “Created in the image and likeness of God” (Gen 1:26-27) As an engaged thinker, I can collaborate to create new knowledge.
