Objectives DEFINE the responsibility of a petty officer second class to develop subordinates. LIST methods to evaluate and document subordinate performance. DESCRIBE career planning resources and references available. DESCRIBE the command mentoring program and the petty officer second class’s role in mentoring subordinates.

Mentoring Informal mentoring: Formal mentoring: The most common type of mentoring Little or no training is needed to be successful with this type Relationships evolve due to similar interests between the individuals Formal mentoring: More challenging to do than informal mentoring Training is required to be successful with this type Usually managed by the command Deliberate pairing of the individuals 3-2-3
