Physics 1 – Sept 1, 2016 P3 Challenge – Do Now (on slips of paper) Find the equation of the line passing through the points: (3.5 mL, 3.95 g) and (25.0 mL, 26.55 g) Get out 1.2 Worksheet for second Homework check. Get out the Graphing Lab for a second homework check. (I need to see your progress.)

Objectives and Agenda IB 1.2 Uncertainties and Errors IB 2.1 Motion Work with absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainties Determine the error present in graphs’ IB 2.1 Motion 1D Motion (acceleration = 0) (time permitting) Agenda for IB 1.2 Uncertainties and errors Complete the Graphing Lab activity and hand in by end of period Homework Review of 1.2 Practice Worksheet. Position, Displacement and Distance (time permitting) X vs t graphs (time permitting) Assignment:

Graphing Error Analysis Overview Read the y-intercepts off the graph or calculate them from the points on each line. Find the (max – min)/2 for slope to determine the uncertainty in the best fit slope. Find the (max – min)/2 for the intercepts to determine the uncertainty in the best fit intercept. Write summary equation with uncertainties. Determine the percent error. Decide on IV and DV variables. Title the graph and the two axes. Decide on scales for both axes. Plot points. Draw error bars for each point. Draw min, max and best fit lines. Find two points on each line. Use algebra to find slope of each line

Exit Slip - Assignment Why do you draw a minimum slope line and a maximum slope line on a graph? What’s Due on Tues Aug 30? (Pending assignments to complete.) Revisit the Error Propagation Worksheet questions What’s Next? (How to prepare for the next day) Read IB 2.1 (1 D) p35-43
