What is Bibimbap? Bibimbap is a dish mixed of cooked white rice, vegetables, beef, garnishes and fried red pepper paste.
It means the dish is the by‐product of Koreans’ communal lifestyle. - This one‐dish food, which reaches its best taste when all ingredients are mixed up and their flavors are in harmony with one another, is quite analogous to the Korean people who like to mingle and group together. Some say bibimbap originated from the custom of eating leftover foods after performing ancestral rites by thoroughly mixing them together
Bibimbap and Jeonju Bibimbap is a dish with minced meat, veggies, eggs, sesame oil, and hot bean paste mixed with rice. The ingredients are varied by region, with consideration to the aesthetics of the colors in the dish and its nutritious value. Jeonju City’s Jeonju bibimbap is especially popular.

History of Jeonju Bibimbap Bibimbap is cited as one of the best dishes amongst three most popular dishes of the Chosun era(1392-1910).
There are many hypotheses regarding the origins of the bibimbap; from the royal table, a ritual food, the Donghak revolution, a farming season food or royal flight during war time But the most reliable of these is the royal table origination. It was first served at the royal table but was then passed down and spread amongst the lower classes. According to records, people started to eat bibimbap in Jeonju two hundred years ago.
How to eat Tip: Bowl is made of brass or stone, and Bibimbap means mixed rice. - First, mix up all the veggies, rice, and gochujang(red chili paste) with your spoon or chopsticks. *warning: The bowl is very hot!!!
Tip: Leave a little rice on the bottom of the bowl to get crunchy. -Enjoy your rice withy side dishes. Jeonju Bibimbap is one of the most popular korean dishes.
How to eat Korean Etiquette Don’t pour your own alcohol. Don’t start eating before the eldest person starts. Don’t pick up your bowl to drink soup. Don’t pay for your bill at the cash register.
