Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Services (NUCAS) News from Norway

Organization On July 1 2014 NUCAS merged with; Effects: FS, who is responsible for development of the main Norwegian Student Information System and SUN, the developers of both FS and NUCAS, as well as some other systems Effects: New board and new top management with less experience with admission services, increased distance to decision makers. Closer cooperation with FS on managing and developing admission systems, both local and centralized Closer cooperation with our own development team.

Scope The scope has not changed a lot, but there is an increasing demand for statistics and reports on admission from the Ministry, especially as regards the effect of the merging of HEIs and simulation of planned or proposed changes of student qualification criteria. It has been proposed that we should develop admission systems for more study programs. The trend is towards centralization of admission processes. Simulations: What would happen if we required that all applicants to teachers education should have mathematics at a higher level or with a certain minimum grade? Admission system   We are slowly replacing the old system with a new one, in the mean time leaning heavily on synchronization between new PostgreSQL and old Oracle databases. Changes so far has mainly been in system architecture, testing and deployment routines, and user interface for applicants. The development is still going on: at the moment we are working on critical functionality that will have to work properly within the next couple of months.
