Objectives Identify reasons why we lost so many ships at the Battle of Jutland Evaluate the reasons why we lost so many ships at the Battle of Jutland Form a supported opinion as to which reason was the most important

Background The Battle of Jutland was between the British Grand Fleet and the German High Seas Fleet on the 31st May 1916 in the North Sea. It was the only major naval battle of World War I Jutland became the largest sea battle in naval warfare history, bringing together the two most powerful navels of the time.

At Jutland the British Navy lost more men and ships than Germany, but the German Navy lost and was never in a position again to put to sea during the war. Admiral John Jellicoe (Leader of the British Navy), was criticised for his tactics, After the battle the British Navy remained a powerful fighting force whereas the German High Seas fleet was not. But why did the British lose so many ships?

Your Task Research and run a court case investigating why the British lost so many ships at the Battle of Jutland. You will each be given a role to play You will also have an evidence pack to examine and work in teams to prepare for the trial.
