FORCES A force is a push or a pull on an object. Every force has strength, magnitude and direction. Forces acting on a stationary object can set the object.
Forces and Motion. Force A Force is a push or pull on an object. Forces have a direction. Forces have a strength (magnitude) and are measured in Newtons.

Matter in Motion What is Force?

Force Force- a push or a pull Unit of force- newton (N) Net Force-the force that results from combining all the forces exerted on an object

Force in Combination Forces in the same direction Add together the forces to determine the net force 25 N 20 N Net Force 25 N + 20 N= 45 N to the right

Force in Combination Forces in different directions Subtract the smaller force from the larger one to determine the net force 12 N 10 N Net Force 12 N – 10 N = 2 N to the right

Unbalanced and Balanced Forces Unbalanced forces produce a change in motion When the net force on an object is not zero Necessary to cause a nonmoving object to move Necessary to change the motion of moving objects Moving object can continue to move when unbalanced forces are removed

Unbalanced and Balanced Forces Balanced forces produce no change in motion When a net force of zero is produced Do not cause nonmoving objects to move Do not change the motion of a moving object
