Where do you see a force happening in the room right now?

What is a Force? a push or pull. All F have both size & direction. F is measured in Newtons (N).

Forces Acting on Objects All F’s act on objects. Sometimes the F causes the object to move … sometimes it doesn’t.

Determining Net Force Net Force = combination of all the F’s acting on an object.

Forces in the Same Direction If the forces are applied in the same direction, add the forces together. The object will move in the direction of the applied forces.

Forces in Different Directions If the forces are applied in different directions, subtract the smaller force from the larger force. The object will move in the direction of the larger force.

Determining Net Force Practice

Determining Net Force Practice

Balanced Forces When the F’s on an object produce a net force of 0N, the forces are balanced. Balanced forces will not cause a change in the motion of the object.

Unbalanced Forces When the net force on object is not 0N, the forces are unbalanced. Unbalanced forces will cause a change in the motion of the object.
