Signals

Why are signals used? This semaphore signal tells the driver to stop.

Moving the signals The signal operator pulls levers in the signal box.

Moving the signals Chains, wires and pulleys attached to the levers can move the signals.

Moving the signals The signal is at an angle. This now tells the driver it is safe to go.

Signalling with light What colours can you see? What instruction do you think each colour gives the train driver?

Hand signals Who uses hand signals to signal to the driver? What do the signals tell the driver? Could paddles or flags help to make the signals easier to see?
