Preparing and coping with GCSEs Mr Phillips-Assistant Headteacher Effective study skills can reduce your levels of anxiety and encourage you to feel more in control of your work!

Things which could help…. What is good about this space? Revision prompts/displays/posters/timetables Run through slide 30 seconds. Hydration Music? Resources

Revision prompts/displays/posters/timetables Your brain is constantly recording information whether you are conscious of it or not. Displaying important information in a place that you will view on a regular basis is an excellent way of creating strong memories. Mind maps, post it notes, long and short term revision timetables can all be displayed in this way. Be realistic when making your plan. Revise in no more than 40-50 minute slots, before taking a break. Run through slide. 1 min.

Revision Timetable Free evening Morning/ Session 1 MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY Morning/ Session 1 Science units P2 and 3 (30mins on each) School English revision Science biology (1 hour) GCSE PE (1 hour) Maths (1 hour) Afternoon/Session 2 Football match Evening/ Session 3 School Maths revision History (30mins) Science Chemistry (30mis) Football practice School History revision Maths Free evening

Resources The internet is a wonderful source of information. It gives you access to past papers, mark schemes, video clips and websites that can really boost your understanding……… However…… The internet also contains a lot of information that is not specific to GCSE’s or to the exam boards that you are studying….. bbc bitesize can be useful but not if you are studying the wrong material. And……… Electronic devices can be a source of distraction. If necessary unplug when you need to concentrate. All pupils should have the revision guides for ALL subjects they study. These are very specific to the knowledge they require for that exam board. Run through slide. 1 min

Stay Healthy-Body and Mind! Water not fizzy drinks Healthy food not junk food Take a break from electronic items…..especially near bedtime

Summary of things which could help: Exercise/Sport Having a plan and sticking to it! Healthy food and water Relaxation and breathing techniques Proper sleep Not passing out with exhaustion

Planning my time Do I have a long term plan? Do I have a short term plan? Have you prioritised in your plan? E.g. Which topics do I struggle with? What do I need to do between now and May/when will I do it? It can be a stressful time, but planning and managing time will reduce this. There is support available if you need it. Main begins here and will take 15 mins. 5 mins to run through the next 4 slides and then 10 to complete their own plan.
