DCL Trials Overview DCL – Data Communications Departure Clearance Service: Initial and revised clearances to participating FANS equipped aircraft Data Comm Trials Automation Platform (DTAP) – Standalone application end system w/ Controller CHI Flight Deck logs on via AFN service, and Initiates the Clearance Request (DM25) Uplinked Route information is auto-loadable into Flight Deck FMS Flight Deck can Wilco, Standby, Unable uplinked messages AOCs receive real time copies of messages uplinked to flight deck (AOC responds with Gate info) MEM, EWR, ATL selected to host DCL Trials: FAA, NATCA and industry participation in site selections Trials expected to run for 1 year under Test NCP’s DTAP independent of current Tower Data Link Services (TDLS)
DCL Trials Activities Data Comm Implementation Team (DCIT) established Jan 2011 Members include operators, FAA reps, automation system manufacturers, research organizations, NATCA, Communication Service Providers, avionics manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, as well as support contractors Working Groups for DCIT: Management, AOC, Flight Deck, and Systems Integration Three trials sites and leading partners are: Memphis/FedEx, Newark/United-Continental, Atlanta/Delta MOUs in process to include Union participation Additional sites possible, as necessary
