Luis Garavito “The Beast” By: Bailey Dektor Pd. 8th “I rape A murder”

Background Garavito was born on January 25, 1957 in Génova, Quindío, Colombia. He is the oldest of seven brothers. He had a lot of jealous and anger towards the other siblings because he lost a lot of attention as each sibling came along. He grew up in poverty and didn’t have much. Luis was raped as a child. He had a limited education of no more than five years. He went to work on the streets as a peddlar. Garavito had a long history of abusing alcohol. Physically and emotionally abused at the hands of his father His only victims were males He never had any children He was never married

Garavito’s murders Garavito's victims were poor children, peasant children, or street children between the ages of 8 and 16. Garavito approached them on the street or in the countryside and offered them gifts or small amounts of money. After gaining their trust, he took the children for a walk and when they got tired, he would molest and rape them, cut their throats, and usually dismembered their bodies. Most corpses showed signs of prolonged torture

Most recent crime 1999 Garavito was finally caught and found guilty of the attempted rape of the 12-year- old boy in the western city of Villavicencio in April 1999, the crime that led to his arrest. They found a headless 14 year old boys body a short distance away. a homeless man observed this happening in the bushes taxi drivers observed a man who matched the description given by the boy. The man had no personal I.D. but gave the name and I.D. number of a man who was a politician in a small town.

sentence Garavito was arrested on 22 April 1999. He confessed to murdering 140 children, and was charged with killing 172 altogether throughout Colombia. He was found guilty on 138 of the 172 accounts; the others are ongoing. Although the maximum sentence for murder in Colombia multiplied by 138 comes to 1,853 years and 9 days, Colombian law limits imprisonment to 30 years. Because he helped police find some bodies, as well as to his confessions, his sentence was further reduced to 22 years. He may possibly qualify for even earlier release for further cooperation and good behavior.

quotes “Colombia’s deadliest murderer” said by everyone ‘I rape the murder” said by garavito

BOOKS, movies, or songs BOOK: serial Killers: The Colombian Monsters: True Crime Serial Killers Pedro Lopez liked hosting tea parties, with corpses as his guests. Daniel Camargo sought out virgins, and took both their virtues and their lives. Luis Garavito became sadistically violent after years of sexual abuse. In Colombia in the 1970s, '80s and '90s, these three monsters cut a swath of terror across a country already ravaged by poverty as well as the casualties of the region's powerful drug cartels. The three are among the most prolific serial killers in the world, and incredibly are believed to be responsible for nearly 1,000 murders of young boys and girls whose positions on the lower rungs of society's ladder made them especially vulnerable. These true accounts of Colombia's most sadistic of sex criminals reveal the awful price they forced the most innocent of victims to pay when their childhood betrayals turned to uncontrollable rage. These chilling true crime stories are the stuff of nightmares, and if you're not left shattered by the sheer number of victims - you'll reel when you learn how little time these madmen served for destroying the lives of so many families already struggling with hardship. It's a serial killer biography that will not only leave you stunned, but also wondering if the infamous Pedro Lopez - released after serving less than 30 years - is still alive somewhere, holding macabre tea parties with his young victims. No movies or songs

I believe of that out of the sociological theories that the anomie theory best fits luis garavito. The anomie theory is when norms are either weak, absent, or conflicting. He grew up very poor in a place that was in poverty. he has history of alcohol abuse. He was sexual abused as a young child. He was mentally and physically abused by his own father. He never had a wife or a family of his own. I believe that since all of this happened he turned to crime. I feel like as if he thinks others should get what he got. He killed and raped young boys or men. Just by knowing that there seems to be a connection to his past. In the end he gave a map of most of his places were he had put the bodies. I think at this point he knew what he had to do to get himself out of a ton of trouble. Retreatism shows what happened the most. As to how his background really effected what he did the boys.
