BATTLE OF ATLANTA The battle of Atlanta took place on July 22nd, 1864 in Atlanta, Georgia Confederate General- John Bell Hood Hood and his men were pressured by Sherman and the union army. Union General- William Tecumseh Sherman Sherman’s goal was to advance towards Atlanta http://ngeorgia.com/ang/John_Bell_Hood http://ngeorgia.com/ang/William_Tecumseh_Sherman

BATTLE OF ATLANTA Number of Union casualties- 3,641 Number of Confederate casualties- 8,499 Not realizing that the Union stabilized a line of troops on the Northern end and Southern end of the battlefield General Hood launched an attack to the North. After losing so many men and losing ground to the Union forces General Hood called off the attack and retreated. The Union won the battle.
