Scientific context and objectives Background / Problem statement: Ageing population Increasing expectations regarding quality of life Increasing demand for procedures such as total hip replacements, bone reconstructions, spinal fusions… New advances in biomaterials (improved processing, bioactivity and/or tailored shapes, enough structural integrity and bone integration/regeneration): currently under development at the laboratory scale However: gap between academic R&D and commercial production, and between materials scientists and clinicians, NEWGEN MoU objectives: This COST Action, NEWGEN, aims at creating the seed for the European research and industry collaboration, combining basic knowledge from academic laboratories, R&D centres, medical units from hospitals, and a significant number of companies, in the field of biomaterials to realize new functionalized, bioresorbable and customized bone substitutes and more reliable implants

(15%) High quality of reports, and leading to scientific publications (13 + 6 in preparation) and oral presentations in international conferences (11 + 8 planned) A very good tool to promote mobility of young researchers
