Making Use of Energy 7 e) How energy from a houses can be restricted e.g. loft insulation, double glazing, cavity wall insulation and draught excluders the cost effectiveness and efficiencies of different methods of reducing energy loss from the home: to compare their effectiveness To use data to compare the economics of domestic insulation technique- including the calculating of payback. The economic and environmental issues surrounding controlling energy loss how data can be obtained and used to investigate the cost of using a variety of energy sources for heating and transport.

Quick Quiz – using Energy efficiency in the home Which suggestions are free? Which suggestions save 1 tonne of carbon dioxide? Which suggestions have a payback time of less than 1 year? Why cannot the financial saving be predicted for showering rather than bathing? Which suggestions have the biggest impact in the fight against global warming? How much would it cost to implement all 12 suggestions.

Mr & Mrs Jones want to improve their homes energy efficiency. They have a Budget of £300 and have received an energy saving grant of £200 which can only be used for loft insulation, a new boiler or cavity wall insulation.

Plenary – Feedback Suggestions Write an email to Mrs jones explaining your suggestions Keep it short (10 lines maximum) Highlight the costs Highlight when the outlay will be recouped Highlight the benefits of your suggestions
