Director of Networked Learning Technology Update Heather Bender Director of Networked Learning August 4, 2016

As Technology Advances, Huntsville City Schools Will Roll Out Additional Technology for Grades PreK-2 in Title I Elementary Schools January 2016, Networked Learning and IT Department researched the latest and greatest in technology tablets We narrowed the selection down a Lenovo Windows Tablet and Apple iPad Air 2 Lenovo Tablet pilot held at McDonnell ES and Chapman P8 Results of the pilot showed teachers liked the Lenovo tablet but the apps available to align with our standards was too limited In spring of 2016, pilot results were shared with the Title I Elementary School leadership teams and the decision was made to upgrade their schools with Apple iPad Air 2 In addition to iPads in PreK-2nd grade, the school leaderships team requested laptops for use in 2nd grade

In August 2016, Title I Elementary Schools Will Receive Their Additional Technology Apple iPad Air 2 is a significant improvement from the original iPad deployed in fall 2012 Apple iPad Air 2 is lighter, updated operating system and increased storage space Gumdrop case provides additional screen protection and is rubberized to increase durability Improved process for teachers to download apps Monitoring capabilities A cart of five Lenovo laptops will be available to use in second grade Title I classrooms Total investment into Title I Schools = $1,096,034.00
