Presentation transcript:

Christian Attitudes to Contraception Objectives: To know about different forms of contraception To understand some religious attitudes to contraception

Work in pairs Make two lists: All the different forms of contraception you can think of All the different reasons to use contraception you can think of You have 5 minutes

Christian attitudes Protestant Christians (this includes Church of England, Methodist etc) generally believe that contraception is acceptable Any form of contraception is allowable as long as both partners agree to it Contraception is a good way of controlling family size and ensuring the well being of the couple

More Christian attitudes HOWEVER, Roman Catholics believe that contraception is not in keeping with human nature It is natural that conception should happen as a result of sex and therefore contraception should not be used because it is unnatural The only acceptable form of contraception is the rhythm method (having sex when the woman is not fertile)

Task – Copy this paragraph choosing the most appropriate words Christianity is united/divided in its views on contraception. The Protestant/Catholic Church accepts contraception as a responsible way of planning a family, whereas the Protestant/Catholic Church claims that contraception is acceptable/unacceptable because the main purpose of sex should be for procreation/pleasure.
