Elements that should be included

Elements that should be included: Causes There are many different factors in the causes of disease. The main causes are below: The different pathogens that can cause diseases How the choices you make for your lifestyle can damage your health Genetics that can cause certain types of diseases http://www.newhealthadvisor.com/Examples-of-Pathogens.html http://www.flickriver.com/photos/koniart/tags/clipart/ http://www.greenworldrealtors.com/.hcc.thumbs/dna-strand

Elements that should be included: Spread Diseases can be spread and transmitted to lots of people in a short amount of time, and people need to know how to prevent them. Different animals that can spread diseases (zoonotic diseases) Other forms of transmissions airborne waterborne fluidborne http://peterboroughvets.ca/2015/08/13/10-steps-to-help-prevent-zoonotic-diseases/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airborne_disease https://www.healthunit.com/preventing-infections-blood-and-body-fluids http://watermachine.net/dr-oz-water-focus/

Elements that should be included: Consequences The consequences of diseases are multiple and dangerous, so preventing them before the consequences happen is very important. Some consequences are below: Death because of the disease Damage to your DNA and genetic material Symptoms from the different diseases Epidemics/pandemics http://www.flufacts.com/know/symptoms.jsp http://www.cityofhope.org/blog/dna-repair-protein-personalized-cancer-therapy http://www.rapidreferenceinfluenza.com/chapter/B978-0-7234-3433-7.50010-4/aim/influenza-pandemics-of-the-past http://www.cdc.gov/dhdsp/data_statistics/fact_sheets/fs_aian.htm

Elements that should be included: Management Managing a disease outbreak has always been difficult to do, and once others know how to do it, they can do their part to stop it. Some forms of management are below: Medications Annual checkups Vaccinations Raising awareness/ Educating others Isolation/Quarantine for infected people http://theskinographies.com/ http://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/Article/World-Horse-Welfare-calls-for-stricter-disease-control-measures http://www.thejournal.ie/general-health-check-ups-may-be-a-waste-of-time-638645-Oct2012/

Comparison: The Pros & Cons

Causes of Disease Solve the Outbreak Infection 2 Gives general information about pathogens Doesn't have any causes from lifestyle choices or genetics Infection 2 At the start it gives you a one pathogen to start with. Gives little information about pathogen Doesn't have a cause from lifestyle choices or genetics.

Spread of disease Solve the Outbreak They give the definition of some diseases, but some of them, they are not explain fully, especially when the disease is spread by animals. So, far in the game we haven't seen any disease that talk about fluid borne or blood borne. Infection 2 In the game it doesn't says anything about rabies and how to prevent them. They could also give more information on how animals or natural transmission can spread and how to prevent them.

Consequences of Disease Solve the Outbreak They include the death, injured count, and how they died, but don’t talk about damage to DNA They talk a lot about characterizations of the disease They talk about the possibility of an epidemic/pandemic, but don’t give a lot of information Infection 2 Death is shown a lot, and there are a big variety of symptoms They don’t give very descriptive or scientific descriptions for the symptoms, like Solve the Outbreak does Includes a lot about epidemics and pandemics and their effects, while Solve the Outbreak doesn’t Like Solve the Outbreak, Infection 2 doesn’t include information on damage to your DNA.

Management of Disease Infection 2 Solve the Outbreak - They include news pops saying to sanitize to prevent the disease - They use the news to tell people about the outbreak - They don't include going for checkups or completing medications given - They don't include vaccinations - They don’t mention Quarantine and how it is used to manage a disease Solve the Outbreak -They didn't add information on annual checkups -They could have explained Quarantine -They say to use antibiotics to prevent rabies -They say to go to the doctor once your feeling sick -They talk about taking vaccinations

Suggestions for Improvement of Games

Suggestion for improvement: Causes Infection 2 -Inform more about some pathogens. - The genetics causes could be put in the resistance and transmission sections. - Give the definition, about some genetics factors and lifestyle choices. Solve the Outbreak - Add more information in learn section. - Talk about genetics causing diseases. - Explain more in the definition, about some genetics factors and lifestyle choices.

Suggestion for improvement: Spread Solve the Outbreak -Don't show a variation of specific transmission of some diseases. - Explain different ways the disease could be spread. Infection 2 -Doesn't says anything about: dogs, cats and bats being the vectors for rabies -Give more information about how different animals or natural transmission can spread the disease.

Suggestion for improvement: Consequence Solve the Outbreak -Need to include information about damage to DNA. - Need to include information about epidemics and pandemics. - Include in the game a level that have a case based in damage of DNA and a level with epidemic and pandemic. Infection 2 -Add in the symptom section damage to DNA - Add also epidemic and pandemic, and say the affects that they can have on the country or world. - They could include more scientific and descriptive explanation of the symptoms.

Suggestion for improvement: Management Solve the Outbreak -None of the cases that we have played, they didn't talk about going to the hospital to do check ups. - Explain about isolation and also explain about quarantine. Infection 2 -It doesn't say anything about going for check ups, and making sure to get vaccination. - They also don't mention quarantine and how it is used to management diseases. - Don't explain about raising awareness.

Ratings of the Games

Overall Ratings Solve the Outbreak We rated Solve the Outbreak 8/10 because it is very educational and it includes th

Conclusion Solve the Outbreak Realistic and educational Not as entertaining Infection 2 Semi-educational Not as realistic More interesting

Thank you for listening! We hope that DBAT will consider our suggestions for the improvement of Solve the Outbreak and Infection 2
