Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University, Indonesia 9-10, 2017 Preserving Indonesia Cultural Heritage: Usability Analysis of Manucripts Collection Websites   Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University, Indonesia 9-10, 2017

Manuscripts

Manuscripts

Background Manuscripts are most important sources of Indonesian history Among manuscripts available, 90% manuscripts is about religion. Islamic manuscripts come along with the coming of Islam to Indonesia. Increased access to digital manuscripts is expected to contribute to the number of research in Indnesia There is still few research on manuscripts collection. usability analysis increase students’learning experience, confidence, and research.

Digitalization of Manuscripts

Aim of Research To investigate the websites usability of Indonesian Islamic manuscripts. To identify students frequency of using online manuscripts collection. To assess students preference websites on using Indonesia Islamic manucripts. To assess students satisfaction on using websites of Indonesian Islamic manuscripts

Theoretical Background Nielsen (1993) demonstrate the importance of usability and also proposed criteria for the assessment of usability is significant, It covers five criteria: Efficient, Easy to learn, Few errors, Easy to remember, Pleasant to use. Usability is the process for making the navigational prospects more user friendly and task effectiveness to meet user’s satisfaction (Roy and Pattnaik, 2014). Rubin and Chisnell (2008) states that usability testing is a technique used to evaluate a product or system in which the process of testing the product / system involves direct testing on representative respondents.

Research limitations   No triangulation of data that can be obtained from team of websites designers. Information manuscript researchers. Only Islamic manuscripts

Conclusions   Websites on Indonesian Islamic manuscripts were very important for students, but all of need improvement Students prefers websites which give them many facilites to browse and and search. In studying mansucripts, students need to look information from many search. For example author/copier, date of copier, scripts, subject, language, illumination, and other paratextual devices. The nature of manuscripts need different usability assessment from other sources, e.g books. LKK and NLI seems limit users to search the collection effectively, while TIIM does not give download option.
