SURVIVAL TACTICS FOR ROUNDABOUTS 5/20/2018 SURVIVAL TACTICS FOR ROUNDABOUTS In Oman Road Law each lane has a clear role. SURVIVIAL RULE 1: Traffic already on the roundabout has right of way. STRATEGY: when on the roundabout drive at a steady speed and be prepared to Give Way to drivers who drive onto the roundabout in front of you, ignoring the traffic rule. This avoids a crash. Don’t assume others will give way to you when they should. Always use your indicators to inform others where you are going to exit. 2

SURVIVAL TACTICS FOR ROUNDABOUTS 5/20/2018 SURVIVAL TACTICS FOR ROUNDABOUTS Each lane has a role. We are the Red car. TURNING RIGHT: Enter the roundabout using the right hand lane with your right indicator on, and exit using the right hand lane of the road. Never exit in a lane different form that which you entered. GOING STRAIGHT ON: Best to enter and exit in the right hand lane, putting your right indicator on after passing the first exit. By doing this you are always safe. It is possible and legal to enter the roundabout in the left hand lane and exit in the same left hand lane. Indicate right after passing the first exit. However drivers in the right hand lane may decide to turn left by mistake, cutting across your car and cause a crash. TURNING LEFT & U TURN: Only the left lane can turn left or complete a U turn. Enter the roundabout with your left indicator on, then change to right indicator when you have passed the last exit before you want to exit the roundabout. ROUNDABOUT SAFETY IS ALL ABOUT PLANNING AND SCANNING – LOOK EARLY, LOOK OFTEN, BE PREPARED. 3
