Welcome to STA Track & Field Team Goals: Go to True Team State Send athletes to MSHSL state Break a school record (or more) Win Conference Relay Meet Improve place at Conference Championship Stay on the “first screen” at the Section Meet

Welcome to STA Track & Field Individual Goals: Improve performance in each event Improve overall athleticism Improve competitive spirit Learn discipline Make friends Accomplish something you didn’t think you could.

Policies: Training Room Melissa Haupt

Policies: Practice Starts 3:30 M-Th, may be earlier Friday Ending times vary, depending on fitness component (and weather). Students with legitimate ride issues are dismissed without penalty Saturday practices highly recommended and expected for varsity athletes

Policies: Practice Practice is not optional Try to schedule appointments at other times if possible. Tutoring is first, but bring a pass. Lots of homework is not an excused reason for missing practices

Policies: Meets The meet schedule posted on the track part of the school website is probably more useful than the one linked through the Conference. We’re updating it to have information beyond time and location. (Transport, V / JV)

Policies: Team Membership No cuts based on performance May be asked to leave team for: Repeated unexcused absences Disrespect to coaches and teammates Violating team or school policies Unsafe behavior Vaulting without a helmet Unsafe throwing area behavior

Meet schedule is on-line but be aware of changes. Policies: Meets Meet schedule is on-line but be aware of changes. If a meet is to be cancelled, it will usually be done so by noon. (Some exceptions) Meets will go on if weather is not dangerous.

Policies: Meets Meet participation is expected of all athletes Athletes are expected to prepare before and during the meet to compete at their best (not just goof around)

Policies: Meets Athletes are expected to stay for the entire meet unless there is a very important conflict. Ask: would it be ok to leave a football game, a hockey game, a swimming meet for this?

Policies: Meet transportation For meets where busses are provided, athletes are expected to take them to the meet. Busses will be provided for the return to school, but … Parents are welcome to take their athletes home after the meet is over.

Policies: Meet transportation Athletes may drive to meets (where busses are provided) with a legitimate reason AND prior written parental permission. No other athletes may ride with a athlete driving to a meet. Penalty: will not be allowed to compete in the meet.

Policies: Meet transportation Athletes will need to provide their own transportation to several meets. (Conference, Sections, Cannon Falls, Mankato). Depending on the meet and conditions, students may be given permission to arrive late.

Policies: Uniforms—Meet Students will order uniforms this year, and will be able to keep them. Uniforms are same as last year Cost is less than $50 total Financial Assistance is available Ordering is open through April 2

Policies: Optional attire We have some optional STA logo attire from previous years. We were looking for a vendor who can supply weather proof warm-ups for track and cross- country, but have been trouble finding blue.

Policies: Warm-ups The team warm-up is not an absolute requirement, but we expect that all athletes will be in some kind of STA athletic apparel that looks like a track warm-up suit.

“Policies” Shoes Each event has specialty shoes. Consult with your event coaches. Good shoes improve performance and prevent injury.

“Policies” Other Clothing All athletes should prepare for all conditions. Assume the worst of the weather. “Pack your bag!” Assume the meet is on, and prepare. Don’t make me tell the Shakopee ‘95 story again.
