Essential Questions What causes someone to be called a hero?

Interpret Author’s Purpose 1. Why does the author use a comparison between baseball players in Puerto Rico and tropical flowers in a rain forest? Infer Main Idea 2. Why is it important to know that there are many baseball players in Puerto Rico? How is Roberto different from the others?

Text and Graphic Features 3. How does the illustration on p. 155 support what the text says? Author’s Craft What descriptive words does the author use to help you picture Clemente’s unusual but, glove, and balls and the field where he played?
