OPERATIONS ON FRACTIONS & DECIMALS Students will be able to refresh their knowledge on the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals.

FRACTIONS – Adding & Subtracting - REDUCE **Mixed Numbers WITH common denominators Add or subtract the numerators, the denominator stays the same WITHOUT common denominators Find the LCM (least common multiple) of the two denominators Multiply in the missing multiple to create common denominators in both fractions Proceed adding or subtracting with common denominators

FRACTIONS – Multiplying & Dividing - REDUCE MUST put mixed numbers into improper fractions! Multiplying Cross reduce is possible, multiply straight across numerator and straight across denominator Dividing KCF – Keep Change Flip, then follow procedures to multiply the fractions

DECIMALS Adding & Subtracting Multiplying Dividing Line up the DECMIALS – not the digits!! Multiplying Line up the last DIGITS – not the decimals!! DON’T FORGET PLACE HOLDERS WHERE NECESSARY! Dividing First number or numerator – GOES IN THE HOUSE If decimal outside the house, must move to the right to get a whole number (must be moved in house same number of places)
