All buildings that choose this option MUST complete an embodied carbon assessment. There is no baseline at the moment; projects just need to report the actual building project. During Rezoning, a preliminary LCA will be required., including how to reduce embodied emissions. Building Permit: Updated LCA plus description of how measures to reduce embodied carbon were undertaken. Living Building Challenge Materials Petal Imperative 11 – Embodied Carbon Footprint Projects must conduct an embodied carbon calculation of the building through construction and purchase a carbon offset from an approved provider. The LBC is a very ambitious and stringent green building rating system that was first launched in 2007. There are currently 11 fully certified Living projects, 10 petal certified, and 20 Net Zero Energy Certified Projects. In the earliest versions of this standard, the LBC has required that projects pursuing full Living certification meet this imperative.
